Google proves it's green by... Capturing subsidies?

Does this make any sense?  Google, Apple, et al, are under attack because of energy hogging cloud server farms. So they invest in wind and solar generation. Which is a very profitable investment primarily, typically, because of government subsidies and requiring utilities to buy all the power. Win-win for Google, hooray. Taxpayers and unsubsidized energy users foot the bill (for installed base load power without which Google couldn't operate during cloudy windless days). What am I missing?
